Dr Desai-Gupta is an accomplished, compassionate and approachable Consultant Psychiatrist based in London, Uniked Kingdom.
She has a track record of delivering high standards of clinical care and treatment to patients under her service for over a decade.
She currently works as a Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry at the Priory Hospital, North London and has admitting rights there. She is a Clinical Director at Atrom Mindcare Deep rTMS Clinic ( https://www.atrommindcare.com ). She is a Health Assessor and Medical Supervisor with the General Medical Council (GMC) since 2019. In this role, she conducts assessments for doctors with mental health problems. She tutors medical students from the University College London (UCL) at Priory Hospital in North London.
Dr Desai-Gupta was an Associate Medical Director (Interim: 2017-18 & 2019-20) within NELFT NHS Foundation Trust. She has been a Consultant Psychiatrist within NHS since 2012 where she worked within different types of Community Mental Health Teams and gained extensive experience looking after patients with a range of acute and chronic, complex, enduring and treatment-resistant mental health problems, who often posed a risk to themselves or others. She ran special sessions for Assessment and Treatment for patients with ADHD, for those with Dual Diagnoses and those experiencing First Episode of Psychotic illness. In recent years she set up and ran an Acute In-patient Unit- Blake ward, which opened in September 2020 at the Priory Hospital in Enfield.
Her expertise is in diagnosing and treating ADHD in Adults, Mood disorders including Anxiety, Depression and Bipolar Illness, Psychotic disorders including Schizophrenia, Personality Disorders, and Mental illnesses with co-morbid Alcohol or Illicit Drug use.
She is an experienced trainer in Psychiatry, was an Educational Supervisor for Psychiatric trainees and a Medical Student Tutor and Examiner with the Universities of London and Manchester. She is the founder of the ‘In-Sync’ multi-professional simulation training program in Psychiatry run within NELFT NHS Foundation Trust – aimed at bridging the gap between physical and mental health care which was awarded ‘Innovative Training of the year 2017’ by University College London Partners (UCLP).
Dr Desai-Gupta is registered as a media spokesperson with the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2010. She has in this role, provided honorary expert guidance on various psychiatric topics to media professionals.
Dr Desai-Gupta is particularly interested in helping Adults with ADHD, patients with treatment resistant Depression and OCD using Deep rTMS Technology and patients from Ethnic Minority backgrounds.
Training
Dr Desai Gupta qualified as a Doctor from the University of Mumbai, India in 2003.
She holds a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Psychiatry from the University of Manchester for her research in the relationship between Spirituality and Depression (2012).
She is a member of the International Clinical Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (CTMS) Society.
She completed her Psychiatric training from across the UK, starting in Scotland at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and thereafter within the Central and North Manchester Training schemes at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Prestwich Hospital and other District General Hospitals (2008-2010) and finally within the North London Training scheme at the Highgate Centre for Mental Health and Chase Farm Hospital (2010-12).
She also trained in delivering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Analytic Therapy to women prisoners with mental illness and psychosexual therapy (2008-2010).
Research interests
Dr Desai-Gupta’s research interest for her MSc Thesis was ‘The relationship between Spirituality, Personality, Coping factors & Vulnerability to Depression.’ (2011).
During her training years, she had been a researcher in a comparative observational study on Lithium & Semi-sodium Valproate (2006) and in a comparative retrospective study of Atypical Antipsychotics conducted in Lanarkshire, Scotland (2005).

In addition to English, Dr Desai-Gupta is able to conduct consultations in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and basic Punjabi and Urdu.
